Govt to introduce micro-finance institutions: PPP leader

BAHAWALPUR: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani announced revolutionary measures for the people’s prosperity and development of the country and the PPP government will utilise all resources to solve their problems.

Khan Muhammad Hussain Azad, PPP leader, said this while talking to The Post here Monday.

He further said the people were facing unemployment because of wrong policies of the previous government but the PPP government would initiate projects to provide employment opportunities at least one-year to one working member of the poorest 25 percent families of the country.

Azad said the PPP would start literacy and health courses to provide short-term employment to educated youth, adding that vocational training programme would also be commenced for youth.

Azad said the government would introduce micro-finance institutions so that unemployed youth could start their own business.

He said every child in the government primary school would be given a stipend and one computer in each school to get its know-how.

He said the PPP government would also introduce madrassah reforms. Azad said the revolutionary steps would be taken to overcome the energy crisis and alternate sources of energy would also be adopted to generate energy.

He said the government would also make all efforts to face environmental challenges.

Azad said the PPP would improve water resource management by developing nationwide consensus on water reservoirs to fulfil the country’s water and energy needs.

He disclosed that local body institutions would be dissolved and special audit would be launched to find out irregularities and corruption by nazims involved and they would be punished according to law.

FUJ delegation visits Islamia University: A delegation of the Federal Union of Journalist (FUJ) Monday paid visit to the Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB).

Shahzad Ahmed, public relation officer, briefed them on the history of the university and its ongoing development projects.

He told the delegation that 6,950 students had been registered in PhD, M.Phil, graduate and under-graduate sections while 11,500 students had been enrolled during the 2007-2008.

Shahzad said there were 42 departments and six faculties were functioning in IUB while 361 students were registered in PhD Department apart from this 85 PhD and 325 non-PhD teachers were rendering teaching services in the university.

He also briefed on the current development projects in IUB. He said eight development projects were under-construction with the financial help of Higher Education Commission. One project was going to be completed with the financial help of Punjab government while IUB was expending on the 27 development projects.

Shahzad told the delegation that three development projects would be completed by Higher Education Commission, five projects would be completed by Punjab government while nine development projects would be completed by the IUB on self-help basis. He said eight developments projects had been completed by the Higher Education Commission, one project had been completed through the development funds provided by the Punjab government while 63 development projects were completed by IUB during 2007-2008.

Shahzad said the IUB also set up a dramatic club to promote artistic sense among the students. Prof Dr Latif, acting vice-chancellor, said the IUB would be listed in the international standard university.

Entry banned: Under Section 144, entry of unauthorised people have been banned in the area of examination centres established for the second annual examination of LLB being started from April 21.

As per notification, except candidates, no one will be allowed to enter the examination centres. All kinds of books, guides and other material will also be prohibited.

Mobile phone shop looted: Some armed people looted a mobile phone shop at Dera Bakha.

According to police sources, some armed people looted Rs 2,000, mobile phones, computer and calling cards from a mobile phone shop at Dera Bakha Abdul Razzak.

Police have registered the case and started investigation. APP
