ISLAMABAD: The Punjab Food Department has established 37 wheat buying centres in Faisalabad and set targets of buying 4 lakh tonnes of wheat from Faisalabad, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh.

Food Deputy Director Rana Saeed Ahmed Monday told a private TV channel that arrangements had already been finalised for initiating wheat buying from the aforementioned areas within a day or two.

In Punjab the Food Department has fixed to buy 30 lakh tonnes of wheat from across the province for maintaining strategic reserves to cope with any future eventuality and ensure constant wheat supplies to flour mills. He said the recent rains had badly affected the standing wheat crops and disturbed the harvesting schedule. APP
