ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member National Assembly (MNA) Hanif Abbasi has said that he will fully support the demand of Pakistan Computer Association (PCA) to withdraw undue duty on computer and computer accessories which is seriously hampering the growth of the industry as well as progress of the country. He said that the present government believes in the betterment of people and it would take every measure to safeguard the interest of the common man.

Hanif Abbasi said this remarks while talking to a delegation of Pakistan Computer Association (PCA) comprising Jamal Yousaf, vice president of the association Arshad Janjua, general secretary Abduallah Malik and Zafar Shehzad.

The delegation apprised the PML-N leader that the PCA had brought in the knowledge of the previous government on various forums that impact of imposition of 15 percent GST on computers and its components would yield negative results on the IT industry, adding, it is ironic that although assurances to provide immediate relief were extended by every one but nothing tangible was done in this regard.

The PCA office bearers said that information technology has been declared fourth pillar of the economy owing to its immense potential as an engine of economic growth, foreign exchange earner, provider of employment and capacity builder in every sector of the economy. The IT, being a nascent industry, requires special incentives and concessions for its growth, he added.

While presenting various facts and figure of computer industry in Pakistan, the delegation urged to the government to abolish the 15 percent GST imposed on the imports of computers and computer accessories in the forthcoming federal budget to provide immediate relief to the common users, in general, and students, in particular, for whom computer is a necessity rather than a luxury.

Hanif Abbasi assured the delegation that he would not only raise his voice at every forum for the cause of PCA but would also request Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar to look into the matter and provide whatever relief is needed for the growth of IT industry in Pakistan. THE POST
