    Actor Patrick Swayze still alive, says spokeswoman

    Los Angeles, May 19 (DPA) A spokeswoman for ailing US actor Patrick Swayze Tuesday refuted reports that the 56-year-old star of “Dirty Dancing” had died.

    In a statement to KTLA broadcaster in Los Angeles, Annett Wolf said Swayze is “alive, well and is enjoying his life and he continues to respond to treatment” for his cancer.


    Local court rejects Bindra’s transit bail plea

    Chandigarh, May 19 (IANS) A court in Mohali Tuesday rejected the transit bail plea of Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra’s father A.S. Bindra, who was arrested last week for over Rs.90 million (Rs.9 crore) fraud and is under treatment in a Chandigarh hospital after he complained of chest pain.

    Bindra’s transit bail application was rejected by Additional Sessions judge S.K. Garg of a local court in Mohali, Punjab, around 10 km from here.

Rats may be studied to see how Alzheimer’s robs sufferers of episodic memory

Washington, May 19 (ANI): In what may open new ways to study how Alzheimer’s disease causes life-robbing loss of memory in humans, scientists at the University of Georgia say that their latest study suggests that rats can be used as nonhuman models to study how “episodic-like memory” works.
“This research shows that rats remember the time at which they encounter a distinctive event, in addition to what the event was and where it happened. These experiments provide insight into the memory system that retains the time of occurrence of earlier events,” said Jonathon Crystal, an associate professor in the Department of Psychology’s Neuroscience and Behavior Program in UGA’s Franklin College of Art and Sciences.
