    New implantable device can help monitor cancer for months after biopsy

    Washington, May 14 (ANI): Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed the first implantable device that can help monitor a tumour for weeks or months after the biopsy, tracking its growth and how it responds to treatment.
    Michael Cima, a professor of Materials Science and Engineering who led the creation of the device, has revealed that it was found to successfully track a tumour marker in mice for one month during a recent study.

New tool can help predict Alzheimer’s risk

“This new risk index could be very important both for research and for people at risk of developing dementia and their families,” said Deborah E. Barnes of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and member of the American Academy of Neurology.

Study confirms ‘water pill’ outperforms other high blood pressure drugs

Washington, May 14 (ANI): Scientists at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston say that a recent study conducted by them supports the findings reported in 2002 that a diuretic drug, or “water pill”, outperforms other medications for high blood pressure.
High blood pressure is known to be associated with a host of health problems, including heart failure, coronary heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. In adults, it is defined as 140/90 mm Hg or above.

Sydney, May 14 (IANS) The substance that makes snot green holds the key to halting progression of heart disease, says a new study. What scientists have to do is to control the green substance with nitroxides, it adds.

“It might sound disgusting, but the same goop that makes snot green gets dumped in our arteries during heart disease,” said Michael Davies, professor at the Heart Research Institute (HRI), study co-author.

San Francisco, May 14 (DPA) Someone’s forgotten lunch did more than just cause an unsightly, smelly mess in one office refrigerator.

The smell of rotten food during a clean-out in an office kitchen in California was so strong it caused the evacuation of a building, sickened 28 people and prompted a call to the local hazardous material unit, the San Jose Mercury News reported Wednesday.
