    Jaguar Land Rover to hit Indian roads in June (Lead)

    Mumbai, May 1 (IANS) Tata Motors-owned British luxury car maker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is set to launch its premium brands in the Indian market next month, the company said in a statement Friday.

    “We are delighted to be formally entering the Indian market, an economy which is still growing appreciably, and able to offer our premium products to a whole new group of customers,” a JLR statement said.

NASA mission to upgrade Hubble to launch on May 11

US stocks mixed after Chrysler bankruptcy

New York, May 1 (DPA) Two US stock indices retreated but a third was up after the White House announced Thursday that Chrysler, the country’s third-largest car maker, was seeking protection from creditors in bankruptcy court and would take a buy-in from Italy’s Fiat.

The recession has eaten away more than half of Exxon Mobil’s profits, the company said, dropping earnings to $4.6 billion compared to the first quarter of 2008. Revenues dropped 45 percent to $64 billion in the first quarter.

Washington, April 30 (DPA) The long ailing US carmaker Chrysler was to enter bankruptcy protection Thursday after last-ditch efforts to get an out-of-court agreement with its creditors collapsed, President Barack Obama announced.

But Obama said the company had also finalised an alliance with Italian carmaker Fiat, as part of a broad deal that will be presented in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy that will be filed in New York.



Microsoft, Verizon in talks to launch iPhone rival: report

San Francisco, April 29 (Xinhua) Microsoft is in discussions with Verizon Wireless to launch a touch-screen multimedia cellphone in the US early next year in a bid to compete with Apple’s iPhone.

While Microsoft is involved in the design of the phone’s software and hardware, a third-party is expected to make the device, The Wall Street Journal reported, quoting sources close to the development.

Hong Kong, April 29 (DPA) A computer technician was Wednesday found guilty of stealing explicit photos from Hong Kong pop star Edison Chen, triggering a massive scandal involving a number of young starlets.

Sze Ho-chun, 24, downloaded explicit images from the laptop computer of the singer-actor that showed Chen engaging in sex acts with a number of well-known women, a Hong Kong court found.



Wall Street falls on swine flu, banking fears

New York, April 29 (DPA) Major US stock indices fell for a second straight day Tuesday as concerns over the economic impact of a growing swine-flu outbreak and the state of US banks overshadowed a massive jump in consumer confidence.

There were 64 confirmed cases of swine flu in five US states, and alerts have been raised across the globe. In Mexico, where the outbreak originated, more than 150 people have died of an influenza-type illness.

Abu Dhabi, April 28 (IANS) With the launching of new flights between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the air traffic between the two nations has grown considerably even at a time of global slowdown.

Driven by UAE’s national career Etihad’s growing capacity to South India and increased weekly frequencies, traffic at the Abu Dhabi International Airport from and to India increased by 32 percent, making India the largest market, WAM news reported.
