    Islamabad, Apr.6 (ANI): The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, has set a 15-day deadline for government officials to submit a detailed report on the public flogging of a 17-year-old girl in the Swat Valley.


    24 killed, 35 injured in Pakistan mosque bombing (Fifth Lead)

    Islamabad, April 5 (IANS) At least 24 people, including four children, were killed and 35 others injured Sunday when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance of a Shia mosque in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

    The blast occurred at the Imambargah (Mosque) in the Mohala Sarpak area in Chakwal town, where a large number of devotees gathered to offer special prayers on the occasion of the annual Majlis Aza.

Suspected US drone attack kills 13 in Pakistan

Islamabad, April 4 (DPA) A suspected US missile strike on a militant hideout early Saturday killed at least 13 people and injured several more in Pakistan’s tribal region bordering Afghanistan, an intelligence official said.

Three missiles fired apparently from a pilotless US drone aircraft destroyed the home of a local Taliban leader Tariq Khan in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan.

London, Apr 2 (ANI): Former terrors suspect Binyam Mohamed in a testimony has said that he witnessed Pakistani neuroscientist Dr Aafiya Siddiqui during her detention at the Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan, contradicting the official position forwarded by the US Government that she and her children were not in American custody prior to July 2008

The latest twist in the dramatic case was revealed during a meeting hosted by British peer Lord Nazir Ahmed at the House of Lords here on Wednesday.

Lord Ahmed is now demanding the immediate return to Pakistan of Dr Aafiya, and urged the Pakistan Government to directly intervene with the US to bring about a swift repatriation.

Gilani extended the invitation during a meeting here with Sharif’s younger brother Shahbaz Sharif, who on Monday was restored as the chief minister of the Punjab province.

Islamabad, March 31 (IANS) Shahbaz Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) returned in triumph as the chief minister of Pakistan’s politically most crucial Punjab province after the Supreme Court Monday stayed its order barring him and elder brother Nawaz Sharif from contesting polls or holding public office.

“The supreme court has suspended its February 25 order,” lawyer Zafar Ali Shah told reporters after the ruling by a bench headed by judge Tassaduq Hussain Jilani that is hearing the Pakistani government’s appeal against the order.

Lahore, March 30 (DPA) Tactical units of the Pakistani security forces have cleared portions of a police academy where several assailants were holed up after killing at least 22 recruits and wounding dozens more in an early morning attack, news reports said Monday.

The armed group holed up in the training school on the outskirts of the eastern city of Lahore were believed to have taken up to 150 policemen hostage.
