Islamabad, March 24 (DPA) Pakistan’s top Supreme Court judge held court Tuesday, more than 16 months after his dismissal by former military president Pervez Musharraf.

A crowd of jubilant lawyers dressed in black suits chanted slogans and threw rose petals as Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry arrived at the Supreme Court building with official protocol.

Islamabad, March 22 (IANS) Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, who was sacked as the chief justice of Pakistan in November 2007 by then president Pervez Musharraf, resumed charge of the office early Sunday.

Right after taking charge, Chaudhry approved the roster of the apex court and constituted five benches for the principal as well as other seats, Geo TV reported, citing a statement from the Supreme Court.

Islamabad, March 16 (Xinhua) The Pakistan government will reinstate all the deposed judges including ex-chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on March 21, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said Monday.

“I announce the restoration of all deposed judges including Iftikhar Chaudhry according to a promise made by the president of Pakistan and myself,” Gilani said.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani would reinstate the deposed chief justice through an executive order, the channel reported quoting opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar.
