    Local court rejects Bindra’s transit bail plea

    Chandigarh, May 19 (IANS) A court in Mohali Tuesday rejected the transit bail plea of Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra’s father A.S. Bindra, who was arrested last week for over Rs.90 million (Rs.9 crore) fraud and is under treatment in a Chandigarh hospital after he complained of chest pain.

    Bindra’s transit bail application was rejected by Additional Sessions judge S.K. Garg of a local court in Mohali, Punjab, around 10 km from here.


    Tejaswini Sawant shoots bronze at Munich World Cup

    New Delhi, May 19 (IANS) Tejaswini Sawant won a bronze in the women’s three position rifle event of the shooting World Cup at Munich Tuesday.

    Tejaswini, 28, had to rest content with a third place finish with a score of 685.0 (588+97.0). In the qualification, Tejaswini shot 588 with a perfect score of 200 in Prone, 192 in Standing and 196 in the Kneeling position.

Suronjay wins gold in European Grand Prix boxing

New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) Suranjoy Singh sizzled with a gold on the concluding day of the European Grand Prix boxing as India finished their campaign with four medals in Usti Nad Labem, Czech Republic.

Suranjoy emerged as the lone Indian gold medallist when he beat Armenia’s H Danielyan 4-1 in the fly weight category final Sunday, according to imformation received here.



Delhi police awaits medical clearance to bring Bindra’s father

New Delhi, May 18 (IANS) A Delhi police team which has been camping in Chandigarh is waiting for medical clearance to bring Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra’s father A.S. Bindra, who is wanted in cases of fraud, to Delhi.

“We are waiting for clearance from doctors at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Chandigarh and rest of the things will depend on it,” Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told IANS.

Chandigarh/New Delhi, May 15 (IANS) Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra’s father A.S. Bindra, arrested in Chandigarh Thursday for over Rs.90 million (Rs.9 crore) fraud, is to be produced in a Delhi court Sunday after police were granted his transit remand late Friday evening.

Judicial magistrate of Dera Bassi court, Rajpal Singh, arrived at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Chandigarh’s Sector 32 where the senior Bindra has been hospitalised, along with the public prosecutor and a team of Mohali police to record the statement of Bindra late Friday evening.

Chandigarh/New Delhi, May 15 (IANS) Delhi Police Friday said they had a strong case against Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra’s father A.S. Bindra, who was arrested Thursday for over Rs.9 crore fraud. The senior Bindra, who was admitted to a Chandigarh hospital after he complained of chest pain, has been allowed to stay in hospital for more time.

“Our investigation officer approached a court in Chandigarh for A.S. Bindra’s transit remand to New Delhi. But the court after seeing his medical reports gave him more time for treatment and said it will take a fresh look at his medical reports Saturday before passing any order,” Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.
