    Brasa to give a free-hand to Harendra in Asia Cup hockey

    New Delhi, May 5 (IANS) India’s new hockey coach Jose Manuel Brasa thinks that acting coach Harendra Singh has done a good job of managing the Indian team in the last couple of months and he should see it through the Asia Cup at Kuantan in Malaysia.

    The Spaniard, who is leaving for the Malaysian city Tuesday to join the Indian squad after taking over as national coach, said he would only be observing the players at the tournament.


    My job is to make players play to their potential: Brasa

    New Delhi, May 5 (IANS) Newly-appointed national hockey coach Jose Manuel Brasa said his role would be to help the talented Indian players achieve their potential.

    Brasa, who took over as coach of the team Monday, said his immediate goal will be a podium finish in the New Delhi World Cup and then gold in the 2010 Asian Games that will automatically give them a berth at the London Olympics.

Rio de Janeiro, April 30 (DPA) Former FIFA president Joao Havelange, one of the most important personalities in the history of Brazilian sport, asked the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to chose Rio de Janeiro as the host of the 2016 Olympics.

“At my age, unfortunately, I no longer have ambitions in sport. But I do have one wish, which is to offer Brazil and South America the organisation of the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” he said.
