Cycling champ Hamilton retires after testing positive

Hamburg, April 18 (DPA) Olympic cycling champion Tyler Hamilton of the US retired after admitting to have failed another doping test.

Hamilton, 38, told the cyclingnews website Friday that he tested positive for the steroid dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) at an out-of-competition test in February.



Mandatory for all sportspersons to attend Padma Awards: Gill

New Delhi, April 17 (IANS) India’s sports minister M.S. Gill said Friday that he has issued a circular to all national federations that sportspersons from now on should be present in person to receive Padma Awards from the President of India.

Gill’s decision came after cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh skipped the Padma Awards Tuesday.

New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) After being struck off the list of core group of shooters for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, India’s Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra said that he had already informed the national body that he won’t participate in events during 2009.

Bindra and Athens Olympics silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore’s names were removed by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) since they haven’t participated in any national camps this year.
