    Undertrials may now travel in AC coaches!

    New Delhi, May 19 (IANS) If Delhi police has its way, undertrials lodged in the high security Tihar jail may soon travel in air conditioned rail coaches if their presence is required in any other courts in the country.

    There was a representation made to the Delhi government by the Delhi police that under recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, they are entitled to avail the facility of AC three-tier berth in trains while escorting undertrials to other states on a transit remand but they cannot because undertrials are only entitled to the general class, Tihar jail spokesperson Sunil Gupta said.

Ghaziabad, May 19 (IANS) Police Tuesday shot dead one of the two men who had snatched a farmer’s motorcycle in Hapur town of Ghaziabad district, after they opened fire at the police,

According to superintendent of police (rural) K.K. Asthana, two criminals had snatched the motorcycle from a farmer, Satvir who had come to buy medicines from Hapur town of the district. Satvir informed the police, who traced the two to Asoda area of the town.



Sit-in strike at MRF plants enters 11th day

Chennai, May 19 (IANS) The sit-in strike by around 3,000 workers at tyre maker MRF Ltd’s Arakonam and Puducherry plants entered the 11th day Tuesday, with the agitating employees’ union and the management standing firm on their respective stands.

“Our demands are simple. Our union was formed in 2002. Since then we have been asking the management to hold elections to establish the union that has majority membership and negotiate with that body,” P.V. Paramasivam, president of MRF United Workers Union (UWU) told IANS from Arakonam.



Riot tainted Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani gets bail (Lead)

Ahmedabad, May 19 (IANS) A local court Tuesday granted bail to former Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani, who is facing charges of abetting riots in the Naroda Gam and Naroda Patia localities of Ahmedabad during the 2002 sectarian violence.

The Ahmedabad City sessions court granted Kodnani bail in both the Naroda Gam and Naroda Patia cases. Senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Jaideep Patel, who is also facing charges of abetting riots in Naroda Gam, was also granted bail.



Dont make tainted MPs ministers: NGO to PM

New Delhi, May 19 (IANS) The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government should set an example by not giving a ministerial berth to any MP with a criminal background, a NGO Said Tuesday.

“With the unambiguous mandate, it is expected that the Congress and the UPA will provide clean and exemplary governance. It would therefore be appropriate that none of the newly elected MPs with criminal cases pending against them are made ministers in the new government,” said Jagdeep. S. Tejaswini, 28, had to rest content with a third place finish with a score of 685.0 (588+97.0). In the qualification, Tejaswini shot 588 with a perfect score of 200 in Prone, 192 in Standing and 196 in the Kneeling position.
