Durban, May 14 (IANS) Deccan Chargers committed what their captain Adam Gilchrist termed “cricket suicide” by losing a match they should have won against Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Kingsmead here Wednesday.

Chasing 174, Deccan Chargers were cruising at 149 for three, thanks to dazzling knocks from Gilchrist (64) and Andrew Symonds (41). But they lost way by losing seven wickets in 17 balls for 12 runs, as Man of the Match Rajat Bhatia picked up four for 15 and Pradeep Sangwan grabbed three for 18 to snatch the win by dismissing Deccan Chargers for 161 runs in 19.4 overs.

Punjab, Chandigarh record 65 percent polling (Roundup)

Chandigarh, May 13 (IANS) Nearly 65 percent polling was recorded for nine parliamentary seats in Punjab and one seat in Chandigarh Wednesday as the fifth and final round of voting ended.

Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer Kusumjit Sidhu said the highest polling of 69 percent was recorded in the newly-created border constituency of Khadoor Sahib.



Modi to look into Knight Riders-Royal Challengers match footage

New Delhi, May 13 (IANS) Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi has said that he would look into the footage of the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royals Challengers Bangalore to see if the game was fixed.

Knight Riders surprisingly dropped their top-run getter Australian Brad Hodge for the match against Royal Challengers. But Hodge, instead of sitting in the dressing room, was found in the hospitality box during the match.



Munich move closer to van Gaal hiring

Atletic Madrid cancel contract of Seitaridis

Madrid, May 13 (DPA) Spanish football club Atletico Madrid announced Wednesday that they had cancelled the contract of Greek defender Giorgios Seitaridis, which was due to expire in June 2010.

Seitardidis is the second player to be released by Atletico this month, following in the footsteps of Portugal veteran Maniche.
