    Three Lashkar-e-Jhangvi militants arrested for attack on Lankan team

    Lahore, May 13 (ANI): Three suspects were arrested in connection with their alleged involvement in an attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore that left six policemen dead and many players injured.


    53 percent voting in Uttar Pradesh, Pilibhit beats records (Roundup)

    Lucknow, May 13 (IANS) About 53 percent voting was registered in the fifth and final phase of Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh with Pilibhit, where the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) controversial leader Varun Gandhi is contesting, breaking all past records with a 64.5 percent turnout.

    The polling figure in Pilibhit was also the highest in this state this time, where about 1.93 crore voters were eligible to exerise their franchise Wednesday. Polling in the four previous phases in the state stood between 43 percent and 48 percent.

Cricket included in Asian Games

New Delhi, May 13 (IANS) Cricket will make its debut in Asian Games after the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Wednesday decided to include the sport in the multi-disciplinary mega event.

The OCA general assembly in Kuwait approved a proposal to include cricket as a discipline for men and women this week. The decision will come in effect during the 2010 Asian Games at Guangzhou, China.



Three held for Sri Lankan team attack

Lahore, May 13 (IANS) Three men said to belong to the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi terror group have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the March 3 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team that claimed the lives of eight Pakistanis and injured six players.

Quoting sources, Geo TV said the accused are members of banned militant outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and hail from southern Punjab. Following their arrest, they had been moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation.



West Bengal votes amid sporadic clashes (Third Lead)

Kolkata, May 13 (IANS) A 70 percent turnout was reported in 11 constituencies of West Bengal in the final phase of Lok Sabha elections Wednesday amid sporadic clashes that left five people injured and charges and counter-charges of rigging.

“As per the information received at 5 p.m., the polling percentage is 70. However, the number will go up as still there were people in queues,” state Chief Electoral Officer Debasish Sen told reporters here.

Referrals not to be used in the Ashes series
