    Chamling to stake claim to form new State Govt. on Tuesday

    Gangtok, May 19 (ANI): Sikkim Chief Minister and the Sikkim Democratic Front leader Pawan Kumar Chamling will stake claim to form new government in the State on Tuesday after submitting the resignation of his council of ministers to Governor B. P. Singh.
    The new SDF government led by Chamling will take oath on May 20 (Wednesday). Preparations are underway for the hosting of the ceremony at the Raj Bhavan, the sources said.


    Tooth-venom combo key to Komodo dragon’s vicious bite

    Washington, May 19 (ANI): A new study has shown that the effectiveness of the Komodo Dragon’s bite, which is lethal to its prey, is a combination of highly specialized serrated teeth and venom.

    Using sophisticated medical imaging techniques, an international team led by Dr Bryan Fry from the University of Melbourne have revealed that the Komodo Dragon has the most complex venom glands yet described for any reptile.

Cops attacked to avenge firing after Mecca blast

Hyderabad, May 19 (IANS) A little known terror outfit called Tehreek-e-Galba-e-Islam has claimed responsibility for Monday’s attack on policemen here and said it was to avenge police firing on Muslims protesting the 2007 blast at the historic Mecca Masjid.

One home guard was killed and a police constable was injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a police picket in Falaknuma in the old city Monday.

London, May 19 (ANI): Schoolboy Alfie Patten, who was believed to have become Britain’s youngest dad, is actually not the father of the baby his girlfriend Chantelle Stedman, 15, delivered in Eastbourne, East Sussex.
DNA test results revealed in London’s High Court have proved that the real father of the baby girl, Maisie, is another teenager Tyler Barker, 14, who also claimed to having had an affair with Chantelle.
Five more boys had also claimed that they had slept with the schoolgirl.

Bush officials not liable in Muslim arrests: US Supreme Court

Washington, May 19 (DPA) The US Supreme Court ruled Monday that top justice officials in the administration of former president George W. Bush could not be held liable for alleged discrimination in the arrests of 700 Muslim men after the 2001 terrorist attacks.

In a 5-4 decision, the court ruled that former attorney general John Ashcroft and FBI Director Robert Mueller, who has held on to his job in the Obama administration, cannot be sued for mistreatment because they singled out Muslim men using race and religion as their guidelines, the Los Angeles Times reported online.



Obama calls for end to Israeli settlement activities

Washington, May 19 (DPA) US President Barack Obama said during his first meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Monday that Tel Aviv must end its settlement activities in the West Bank in order to progress in the peace process with Palestinians.

“Settlements have to be stopped in order for us to move forward,” Obama said, placing him at odds with the conservative prime minister, whose government appears poised to expand a key settlement in the West Bank.
