    US ignored diplomatic niceties for Gilani: report

    Islamabad, July 30 : Essential diplomatic courtesies were ignored when Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani arrived in Washington on his maiden US visit and he was compelled to walk two-three minutes to a marquee where he was welcomed by an assistant secretary of state, a media report Wednesday said.Pakistani diplomats are unable to explain why Gilani and his entourage were treated almost with contempt when they arrived at the Andrews Air Force Base on Sunday afternoon, The News said in a dispatch from Washington.


    Obama to spend $20 mn to rally Hispanic voters

    Washington, July 29 : US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama plans to spend some $20 million on a nationwide campaign to gain the support of Hispanic voters, his campaign announced Tuesday.

    The money will serve to register and mobilize eligible Latino voters through television advertisements, internet outreach and visits by members of the Congress to key constituencies around the country, the Obama campaign said.

Pakistan receives four F-16 fighter jets

Islamabad, July 28 (Xinhua) Pakistan Monday received another batch of four F-16 fighter jets from the US, marking the completion of a package of US delivery since 2005.

Lt Gen Martin E. Dempsey, acting commander of the US Central Command, handed over the four F-16 fighter aircraft to Pakistan Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed at the Mushaf airbase in Pakistans Punjab province.

Ankara, July 28 : At least 13 people were killed and 70 injured Sunday in two bomb blasts in Turkeys Istanbul province, officials said. The first bomb exploded at 1645 GMT. It was placed in a rubbish bin near a crowded street in Gungoren suburb on the European side of Istanbul, the NTV television station reported.

US looking to shift funds for Pakistani F-16s

The US wants to shift about $226 million in aid for Pakistani counterterrorism effort to upgrade the country’s fleet of F-16s.

The money was originally allocated for counterterrorism activities in the lawless tribal regions of the country near the Afghan border, where the Taliban and Al Qaeda have sought refuge. But Pakistan has undergone economic turmoil and rising fuel prices and requested assistance for its US-built F-16s, State Department acting deputy spokesman Gonzalo Gallegos said Thursday.
