Jim Carrey to play four roles in 3D classic tale

London, Jan 9 (IANS) Hollywood comedian Jim Carrey will be playing four different roles in a new version of Charles Dickens’ classic tale “A Christmas Carol”.

According to dailymail.co.uk, Carrey will sport a virtually unrecognisable look complete with prosthetics, grey hair and pimpled skin to portray the bitter and miser old merchant Ebenezer Scrooge, who is given a chance at redemption on Christmas Eve.

The 45-year-old actor will also take on the roles of the ghost of Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas present and the ghost of Christmas yet to come in the movie, which was specially written for him by director Robert Zemeckis.

“Playing four different roles will give Jim plenty of material for laughs. He’s going to bring his own brand of humour to the parts,” said a source.

Produced by Disney, the film will be shot entirely using performance capture and distributed in 3D.

The tale has been adapted many times for TV and the movies, including two earlier Hollywood versions - 1938s “A Christmas Carol” starring Reginald Owen as Scrooge and 1951s “Scrooge”, with Alastair Sim in the title role.
