Islamabad, Sep 13 (Xinhua) Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has accepted the resignations tendered by the ministers belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), TV reported Saturday.

Zardari, also co-chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), accepted the resignations on the advice of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Dawn News channel quoted official sources as saying.

The PPP and PML-N won the Feb 18 general elections and agreed in March to form a coalition government and restore some 60 judges sacked by former president Pervez Musharraf under emergency rule last November.

However, the two parties could not reach a consensus on the judges’ restoration despite several rounds of talks and nine PML-N ministers tendered resignation to Gilani who refused to accept them in mid-May.Accusing Zardari of breaking promises on the judges restoration issue, the PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif last month quit the ruling coalition and sat on the opposition bench.

‘The PML-N is now ready to play constructive role as the largest opposition party,’ said the party spokesman Ahsan Iqbal.
