Shujaat announces `unconditional support to PPP
May 22nd, 2008 | By Sindh Today | Category: Focused, PakistanISLAMABAD : PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Thursday announced `unconditional support to the PPP government.
“In the larger interest of democratic system, we would foil all efforts being made to destabilize the democratic course. The PML-Q would extend unconditional support to the PPP government without seeking a chunk in the cabinet. Keeping our identity intact, we would extend unconditional support to the PPP, if any of its government either in Punjab or center is destabilised,” he told media persons here in Islamabad.
Shujaat also expressed disagreement with the proposal that the prime minister should be given the powers to appoint the services chiefs. “The PML-Q would oppose any proposal to give powers of appointing services chiefs as this would lead towards involvement of the armed forces into politics. We think that these powers should remain with the president who represents the federation,” he said while answering a question.
The PML-Q also refused the reports of any dialogue of his party either with PPP or PML-N for power-sharing.
Over the judges issue, Shujaat said his party also wanted resolution of the judges issue and its legal experts committee had submitted its proposals over judges restoration. He, however, regretted that some elements wanted to give the judges restoration issue a political colour which was uncalled for. APP (Associated Press of Pakistan), 2008
