KARACHI: The 29th death anniversary of Quaid-e-Awam, former premier and founder of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is being observed across the country on Friday.
PPP caravans from different parts of the country are reaching Garhi Khuda Bux to participate in main function of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
According to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) sources, the co-chairperson of PPP Asif Zardari and other personalities would address the function. Political analysts said, “Quaid-i-Awam Zulfikar Ali Bhutto left deep footprints in the sands of history.
To his credit, there were the 1973 Constitution of the country, the Simla Accord of 1972 bringing the longest peace between India and Pakistan, the social reforms to build an egalitarian society, the non-aligned foreign policy, the nuclear programme and the building of the social, economic and military infrastructure of the country.”
They said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was an intellectual giant. He was a thinker, author and orator. He was deliberate, discreet, and competent; upright and keeper of his covenants. He gave pride to the poor. As leader of the Third World he spoke boldly against racism, colonialism and imperialism.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto awakened the masses, making them realise they were the legitimate fountainhead of political power. He enlightened the farmer, the industrial worker, the student, the woman and the rest of the common people of their importance and of their right of franchise, which is the definite means of bringing changes for the betterment of the lives of the common people, they said. Analysts said that Z A Bhutto believed the army’s indulgence in political quagmire was harmful to its professional competence as an institution. He said clearly: “The Pakistan Armed Forces cannot afford a moment’s deviation from their real responsibility. For the sake of Pakistan’s integrity, they simply cannot afford to get involved or absorbed in the political life of the country. Those soldiers who leave barracks and move into government mansions lose wars and become prisoners of war as happened in 1971″
PPP activists paying glowing tributes to Quaid-e-Awam Zulfikar Ali Bhutto said: “Shaheed Bhutto’s life was a beacon light for bright young people who subscribe to high ideals want to serve their country and humanity”. They said that Quaid-e-Awam caught the heartbeat of the people when he declared, “Chahta Hai Har Insaan, Roti, Kapra Aur Makaan”.
They said he laid the foundation of Pakistan’s development building Port Qasim, the Karakorum Highway, Heavy Mechanical Complex at Taxila, the Kamrah Aeronautical Complex, the Naval Shipyard, Shahrah-e-Faisal and the Steel Mills of Pakistan. He was the Father of Pakistan’s nuclear programme and gave the Islamic world its first Nuclear nation. He built nuclear power stations and introduced nuclear medicine including building five cancer treatment hospitals with nuclear medicine.
They also said Quaid e Awam worked selflessly for the Federation of Pakistan. He brought development to the tribal areas and to the Northern areas. Each part of Pakistan was precious to him. He built the golden gates at Data Darbar as well as at Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s shrine.
