LHC verdict on Nawaz Sharif election nomination today
May 31st, 2008 | By Malik Shahid | Category: PakistanISLAMABAD: The Election tribunal of the Lahore High Court will announce its verdict on the nomination papers of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif here on Saturday.
The tribunal comprising Justice Akram Qureshi and Justice Hafiz Tariq Nasim heard arguments of the petitioners’ counsel and a senior lawyer Akram Sheikh, who extended his arguments on behalf of public at large.
Earlies number of applications had been filed against the acceptance of Nawaz Sharif’s election papers in two constituencies. All appellants’ counsels had argued that Nawaz could not contest election because an Anti-Terrorism Court, under section 402-B of the PPC read with section 7 of ATA had awarded him life imprisonment and fine of Rs 500,000.
Stringent security arrangements have been made on the entry and exit roads around LHC for this occasion.
