National Assembly debates on corruption in District Government System
Jun 2nd, 2008 | By Sindh Today | Category: Focused, PakistanISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Monday started debate on admitted Adjournment Motion regarding increasing corruption in the District Government System and its failure.
Initiating the debate, Syed Zafar Ali Shah said the power tussle between the ruling class increased after the introduction of district government system.
He said this system was started without approval of the parliament and the federal government interfered in the affairs of the provinces through this system.
Sardar Bahadur Sehar appreciated the system but pointed out several flaws in it.
He said in the absence of district ombudsman, the corruption could not be checked while the weak institution of the public safety commission failed to redress problems of the people.
Ayaz Amir said that this system was an attempt to bypass the political system and shatter the confidence of the people over political parties.
He said the National Reconciliation Bureau (NRB) was established with the funding of foreign donors, adding, they (foreign donors) were architecture of the salient features of this system. (APP)
