ISLAMABAD : President Pakistan Peoples Party Makhdoom Amin Fahim on Thursday expressed the hope that PPP-PML(N) coalition will remain intact.

In an exclusive interview with a private TV channel the senior PPP leader said that there is a dire need to strengthen the current coalition instead of cutting its roots by negative propaganda.

He said that the coalition formed after the elections needed to be strengthened for the uplift of democracy and strengthening of democratic institutions in the country.

Fahim said that ARD was formed to restore democracy in the country and efforts were fruitful and results were achieved. The credit goes to ARD, he added.

He said that at the moment, one part of the government is playing its role of treasury while the other is playing the role of opposition and everybody is hopeful and wish that the present coalition would continue in the broader national interest.

When asked about his opinion regarding impeachment of President he replied that if everyone was having the same point of view then there was a procedure in the Constitution to impeach President, follow that way and get the required results.

Giving views on the Federal Budget 2008-09 he said that it is premature to say whether the budget is good or bad, but he could only say that the time would tell about its goodness or badness adding that a budget is good one if it provides relief to the people.

Responding a question he said that people of Pakistan are the owners of Pakistan and every action taken in the country should be brought in knowledge before it is taken.

Commenting on the assassination of Benazir Bhutto he said that he and other party workers always tried to protect putting their lives in danger but as she was a public leader so she could not kept herself aloof from people and that was why the sad incident occurred in which she lost her life.

About his not becoming the Prime Minister he said that he has had an offer to become the Prime Minister but with a condition to separate himself from Benazir Bhutto which he refused categorically which depicts his love with the party and party leadership.

He rejected the notion that the National Reconciliation Ordinance was only for the PPP and said that it was a detailed document providing relief to those whose cases were not decided from a long time period. APP (Associated Press of Pakistan), 2008
