ISLAMABAD : A three-member bench of Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) declared maintainable the petitions filed by the federal government today against Lahore High Court (LHC) verdict regarding the disqualification of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif to contest by-polls.

Deputy Attorney General Raja Abdur Rehman started giving arguments before the courts on behalf of the federal government.

On this occasion, SC bench issued orders to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to delay the by-polls in NA-123.

Lawyer for Sharif, Ashtar Ausaf Ali and counsel of Sharif Brothers, Akram Sheikh Advocate are also in the court.

The same SC bench will hear the amended petition filed by Akram Sheikh along with the Nawaz ineligibility case.

Earlier today, the Deputy Attorney General appeared in the court on behalf of the federal government to file the petition and requested the court to hear the case today, as it is very important. The petition pleads that Nawaz Sharif should be allowed to contest the elections.
