KARACHI : Renowned Pakistans nuclear scientist, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan on Saturday rebuffed the claim of Director General of Strategic Plans Division, Lieutenant General Khalid Qidwai (Retd) that there was “enough evidence” about the proliferation network Dr Khan had run from 1987.

Reacting to the statement of Lieutenant General Khalid Qidwai (Retd), he said, “Qidwai has told a lie. I have not said anything on my own, I only repeated what President Musharraf had already said,” Aaj TV reported.

He accused the foreign media of having ulterior motives and presenting his statement in distorted form. “Foreign media has an ulterior motive and I will never talk to them again”. His allegation followed his telephonic interview with an American wire service, wherein the news agency quoted him accusing the army and President Pervez Musharraf of sending centrifuges to North Korea in 200l.

Dr Khan said that he was handed a pre-written statement in 2004 and was asked to read it out with an assurance that the same would correct everything, adding “but now I will not stay silent anymore and react to the allegations immediately and in the same tone.”

“I only got one sentence added to the pre-written draft handed over to me, which read - I did it in good faith,” Dr A.Q. Khan said. He complained that he was not allowed to meet his ailing sister and brother, adding he is himself seriously ill at present. Business Recorder, 2007
