Jul 10th, 2008 | By Sindh Today | Category: Focused, PakistanISLAMABAD: Hamid Khan, former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association on Thursday urged the government to honour its commitment to the restoration of judges.
Speaking to a gathering organized by the legal fraternity outside the Supreme Court, he said that lawyers are committed to the movement and continue to fight until the restoration of judges.
“The government should not stoke the anger of the nation by the persistence of Judge question,” he added.
Hamid Khan said that the rally is a revelation for the government and the impression that lawyers movement has ended after the long March “is simply a false assumption.
“The representatives of lawyers across the country will meet in Lahore on July 19 to decide the future of the movement,” he said.
He said that on July 25 filed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will visit Multan to address local bar.
Sardar Asmatullah, President Lahore High Court Bar, Rawalpindi Bench, on the occasion said that the government deceives the nation by not fulfilling its promise to restore the judges dismissed without constitutional package.
He said that lawyers have come to avoid the impression that lawyers movement has come to end.
Constitution Avenue was declared a “red zone” and all roads leading to it were blocked with iron wire son. Gatherings of various bar associations across the country attended the event.
The police and Rangers were also deployed on the avenue in order to prevent any accident.
Previously, the government had asked the legal fraternity to postpone its rally as the dominant rule of law and order was not sufficient for public gatherings or say terrorists can strike at the rally or any sensitive facility. However, lawyers disagree with the administration.
Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Jamat-e-Islami also attended the event to show their solidarity and commitment to restoring the testimony of judges, however, the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has been completely absent from the scene. (NNI)
