Lawyers observe ‘Karachi Shuhada day’

LAHORE, April 17 (APP): Lawyers observed ‘Karachi Shuhada day’ on Thursday and completely boycotted the courts to condemn recent Karachi riots that claimed 12 lives.

The lawyers vowed to continue their struggle till the restoration of deposed judges.

The lawyers of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) and Lahore District Bar Association (LDBA) staged complete strike and did not appear before the courts following the decision of the Pakistan Bar Council.

A hunger strike camp was staged on the premises of Lahore High Court in which the leaders of LHCBA alongwith other lawyers participated and condemned the killing of 12 persons including lawyers in Karachi. They also chanted slogans in favour of independence of judiciary.

Meanwhile,a protest camp was also staged under the aegis of “Save the Judiciary Committee” (SJC) to demonstrate against the dismissal of judges as well as the riots in Karachi.

Abdul Rasheed Qureshi SJC President in his speech condemned the killing of several persons during clashes in Karachi alleging that the attck had been planned to defame the lawyers’ movement.

The participants demanded that the government should punish the culprits after holding an independent inquiry.
