Foreign Minister rules out foreign access to NCA

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that our nuclear programme is secure and in safe hands.
Responding to a call attention notice in the House Friday, he said no US official has been placed to have access to the National Command Authority and Pakistan will also not permit this. He clarified that Pakistan has received no request in this regard.
He said there is no need of any concern of this nature and Pakistan follows its independent foreign policy.
Responding to another call attention notice the Foreign Minister said the government is cognizant of the construction of water projects by India on river Chenab and Jhelum and has taken up the matter with India.
He assured the House that the government will protect the country’s rights provided under the Indus Water Treaty.
He said the matter regarding the construction of Wuller Barrage has been made part of composite dialogue and the issue has been placed on the agenda of the dialogue.
He said Pakistan has identified the changes in their controversial projects beyond the parameters provided in the Indus Water Treaty and is making efforts for their rectification.
He said the matter will be discussed during the visit of the Indian External Affairs Minister to Pakistan next month. He said if the matter was ignored by the previous government the present government will make sure to settle down the issue in the interest of the country.
He said the government wants to resolve all outstanding issues with India through dialogue and the water-related issues would be taken up as per mechanism provided in the Indus Water Treaty.
