Sindh collected 6.3bn as tax

KARACHI: Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has collected Rs6,384.283 million under the heads of infrastructure cess, motor vehicle tax, provincial excise duty, professional tax, cotton fee and hotel tax during the first seven months of the current financial year against the target of Rs6,320.298 million.

The break-up showed that the provincial E&T Department collected Rs3,574.151 million under infrastructure cess, Rs1,377.663 million as vehicle tax, Rs1,068.674 million as provincial excise duty, Rs120.790 million as hotel tax and Rs140.357 million as professional tax. Compared to this, the department had collected Rs5,579.836 million as taxes and duties during the whole last fiscal year.

An amount of Rs945.502 million was deposited in the shape of bank guarantee up to February 2008 due to order of the Sindh High Court, therefore the total amount collected stood at Rs7,329.785 million. The provincial excise department said that the total revenue target given to it was Rs9,480.450 million for fiscal 2007-08 and current collection trend shows that revenues will exceed the target.
