HYDERABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Speaker-designate of Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Saturday urged the concerned quarters to convene the Sindh Assembly session so that the new assembly could initiate the legislation process without delay.

Talking to newsmen at the Hyderabad Press Club, Khuhro said the transfer of power had not been completed and the delay in convening the Sindh Assembly session was raising apprehensions. He said the session should be convened at the earliest as the coalition partners of the new government should sit together and resolve people’s problems.

On the nomination of Qaim Ali Shah as the chief minister, Khuhro said it was a party decision and we should hope for the best.

To another question, Nisar said the new government would devise new National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, which would be acceptable to all the federating units. He said the issue was also taken up in the Charter of Democracy.

The PPP leader said his party had started talks with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement as a goodwill gesture but the MQM leadership had decided to sit on the opposition benches. He said both the parties would tolerate and accept each other in the assembly.

Khuhro said a decision regarding the slot of the prime minister would be decided in the party meeting to be convened on March 16.

He said compensation to the victims of December 27 was the top priority of the new government.
