KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Functional’s (PML-F) Jam Madad Ali will lead the opposition in Sindh Govt after MQM Joined hands with government.
Two applications were submitted for the allocation of the opposition bench to Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, by the MQM and the PML-F. With 51 seats, the MQM is the rightful leader of the opposition. The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has 10 seats while the PML-F has nine.

Two PML-Q members, Mir Ghalib Khan Domki and Abid Khan Sundrani, both from Jacobabad, have formed a forward block in the Sindh Assembly and extended their support to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), while Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and his brother Arbab Abdullah, both MPAs, are out of the country, bringing the PML-Q’s grand total down to six.

After just two assembly sessions, the MQM left the opposition benches and joined the treasury benches, becoming part of the PPP-led Sindh government. This left the PML-F, with nine MPAs, as the natural successor to the opposition benches.

“Jam Madad Ali was previously the joint leader of the PML-Q and PML-F in the Sindh Assembly. In a meeting with Pir Pagaro, it was decided that Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim will be the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly while Ali would be the deputy leader. Since Rahim is out of the country, Ali will take his place,” said PML-Q central leader and former federal minister Ghous Bux Maher.

Sources said that there is a plan to reform the PML-Q to exclude the Chaudhrys, to make the party more acceptable to the PPP. Maher denied this, saying that the Chaudhrys will lead the party in the future as well and there is no option of an alliance or cooperation with the PPP.

“They [the PPP] do not need our support and we will only think about cooperation with the PPP if we receive a formal invitation, which is not possible, since they don’t need it,” added Maher. Sources said that opposition parties will chalk out further strategy after May 12. qazi asif
