Ebad shows helplessness for changing provincial assembly session date

Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ebad showed helplessness to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for preponeing the provincial assembly session from April 5, arguing that the date had been fixed by President Pervez Musharraf.

PPP Parliamentarians, which has secured some 91 seats in the provincial assembly and emerged as a single majority party in the province, is not satisfied with the assembly session being summoned on April 5 by the Sindh governor and wants an earlier date, probably March 29, for the meeting of the assembly.

However, PPP Parliamentary Party leader, Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, failed to convince the governor to follow the step taken by NWFP Governor, Owais Ahmad Ghani, who rescheduled the first session of the provincial assembly from April 2 to March 28.

Party sources told The News that the PPP MPAs wanted to attend the death anniversary of PPP Founder and former Premier Z.A. Bhutto in Larkana on April 4, and they argued that it would be immensely difficult for them to be present in Karachi the very next day, which is when they are scheduled to be administered oath as MPAs.

It is learnt that the Sindh governor expressed his helplessness in rescheduling the assembly session and informed the PPP leader that they had sent the summary for summoning the Sindh Assembly session to the President and that he had set April 5 as the date.

During the meeting, the possibility of the election of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the Leader of the House on the same day the MPAs would take oath also came under discussion.

However, after finding out that it was “not feasible” as per the Constitutional requirements, the issue was dropped.

  1. Keep MQM OUT they are backwards in every respect compared to the Sindhis, who are most modern, civilised, farward thinking.
