Development activities impress Americans: Mustafa Kamal

KARACHI : Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that the importance of Karachi has been acknowledged globally due to the better strategy and extra ordinary development works carried out in Karachi.

This he said was not only an honour for Karachi but for the whole country. “During my recent visit to United States, I had not asked for any assistance or credits but only motivated their investors for investment in Karachi under our public private partnership policy and as a result of this a delegation of American investors would soon visit Karachi.”

He expressed these views while giving details of his visit to America in a press conference at Civic Centre on Monday.

The City Nazim said that his visit to United States was very successful one during which he met with the top US officials including Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher, Congressmen, representatives of US think tank, Mayors and Deputy Mayors of Houston and Washington, US representative to United Nations and other prominent personalities.

He said that the Americans were very impressed with the development activities in Karachi. The fact that Karachi enjoyed unique status in a region in South Asia has now been acknowledged internationally.

City Nazim further said that the Washington DC Mayor has proposed for declaring Karachi and Washington DC as sister cities, though they only declare twin cities only capital of the country.

If Karachi was declared than it would be an honour for the people of Pakistan and Karachi while Houston and Karachi have been declared sister cities and very soon a delegation from Houston will arrive in Karachi as they have shown keen interest for making investment in this mega city.

Mustafa said he has also invited Mayor Houston to visit Karachi and once this delegation visits Karachi after this Mayor Houston will visit Karachi.

City Nazim said marketing of Karachi was not being done only for this city, but fort the whole country as this is an industrial hub and gateway to central Asia and Middle East, this is a unique city and its importance is now being recognized all over the world.

He offered his services to federal and provincial government to use his offices for the development and betterment of Pakistan, Sindh including Karachi. “We are ready to work with anyone for the development of Pakistan.” He added. NNI (News Network International), 2008
