IGP, CCPO, Zonal DIGs briefed on law and order
May 14th, 2008 | By Sindh Today | Category: SindhKARACHI: A high-level meting was held at Headquarters Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) in connection with law and order in the province. The meeting was attended by DG Ranges, Home Secretary, IG Police Sindh, CCPO Karachi, DIGs of three Zones and senior Ranger officers.
The new IG Police Sindh and Zonal DIGs were briefed in detail about law and order situation in the city, performance of the Rangers and its reorganization plan.
In the meeting an elaborate strategy was formulated between Rangers and Police for crime control in the city.
Effective steps against criminal elements and violators of law were also considered and it was decided that both forces would take stringent measures to ensure maintenance of law and order in the Province and especially in Karachi.
Office-bearers of transport associations meet IG: The office-bearers of various transport associations met Sindh IG Police Dr Shoaib Suddle at his office in CPO.
The delegation informed the IGP about robberies and incidents of loot in passenger and goods transport at Kashmor and Shikarpur, Northern Bypas, Link Road and Super Highway besides incidents of dacoities and kidnappings and called for effective action.
The delegation suggested that transport should be moved in a convoy under police protection to provide security to passengers and freight during 10 P.M. to 5 A.M. on the Provincial Highways.
They requested the setting up of police check posts at every few kilometers at the provincial highways.
IGP assured that their practical suggestions would be given positive consideration.
Transporters defer May 17 strike: All Pakistan Transport Action Committee has decided to defer transport strike of May 17 for some time.
This was stated by General Secretary of Karachi Goods Carrier’s Association Ashique Hussain Niazi here Wednesday. He said the decision had been taken after the resolution of some matters with the IG Police Sindh Dr Shoaib Suddle.
He said that the meeting of the action committee had also been postponed in view of this development.
Niazi, who did not give details about the meeting with IG Police, said that action committee had to announce the charter of demand of transporters.
He said that action committee will consult with provincial transporters organisation during the deferment period to decide a future line of action. He pointed out that transport action committee will announce the new dates for charter of demand and strike.
