A two-month-old child was kidnapped Monday evening by a couple impersonating some influential people with close links to the doctors of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

Two-month-old Aneel was kidnapped from the JPMC, within the jurisdiction of the Saddar police station. The police said that a case was lodged Tuesday on the complaint of the child’s father, Sonaro. The couple who kidnapped him are still unidentified.

Sonaro said that he had five children. His sixth child, Aneel, was born two months ago at a hospital in Korangi. After Aneel was born, Sonaro’s wife was suffering from fever and her health was deteriorating. Finally the family suggested that she go for a check-up at the JPMC.

Sonaro, his wife, his mother, and Aneel came to the hospital early Monday morning at rush hour and went to get the slip from the counter. Due to the rush there, Sonaro told his wife and mother to sit at a side OPD Ward-6, near Emergency Ward. In the meantime a couple came to them and said that waiting for the doctor the “legal way” was not possible. They said they had contacts with the doctors, and could get the couple in.

Sonaro said that the woman kept a continuous eye on his son and said that people with such small children should not have to wait so long. The man told Sonaro to come with him to get the slip, after which he offered to take Sonaro in to meet the doctor as well.

The couple left Aneel with his grandmother. The unidentified woman stayed with the latter. Meanwhile, the strange man disappeared, saying that he would be back soon.

When he did not return, Sonaro went outside. He found his mother crying alone. He asked her where his son was and she said that the strange woman had offered to hold him for a while, saying that the old lady might be tired. The woman started rocking the child and then stealthily disappeared. Sonaro and his wife searched everywhere for the baby, to no avail. They asked the security staff who expressed ignorance.

After the incident Aneel’s mother fainted. Till the last reports came in, she was refusing to eat and whenever she wakes up she just cries for the child.

Later Sonaro registered an FIR at the Saddar police station.

The SHO, Sadar, Sub-Inspector Niaz, said that they were investigating the case, and initially it was found that the stranger man was Sindhi speaking and middle aged, while the lady couldn’t speak Sindhi, was dark, plump, and in her 40s.

The SHO further said that they were also checking the photograph of an accused woman who was arrested by the Artillery Maidan police in child kidnapping case, as the description of the accused lady matched her.
