Sindh government to open a “Woman complaint cell” in Larkana

LARKANA: Sindh Minister for Women Development Taquir Fatima Bhutto has said the government is giving priority to solve the women’s problems and grievances in the province.

She said this while addressing the participants of the Government Women Development programme held at a local hotel Wednesday.

The minister said a complaint cell would be set up for women in Larkana and other parts of Sindh. She condemned the Karo Kari custom and said the people should get education so that all such customs should be weeded out from the society.

The minister said those women who wanted to earn their livelihood at home the Sindh government would support them by offering different schemes. The government was making all efforts to promote education and ameliorate living standard of the womenfolk, besides solving problems at their doorstep, she maintained.

The Sindh minister said the display centre and vocational training centres would be set up to keep their handicrafts for sale and marketing by the Sindh Women Development Department.

DCO Uqaili, EDO CDD Gazanfar Qadri, Youuf Shaikh Principal Cadet College Larkana, Khaksar Tehreek leader and Larkana Club chairperson Dr Sabiha Mughal, Pireh Sakina Gaad, M Panjal Sangi and others were present.

Mahar visits NCHD office: Haji Anwar Khan Mahar, MPA, Tuesday visited the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) support unit office Shikarpur and he was apprised of its services in the education, health and other fields.

He praised the women education and employment by the department as well as the social welfare organisations for the well-being of masses.

During the visit, Mahar met District General Manager Gulzar Ali Wassan and other officials.

Meanwhile, the Wassan welcomed Mahar and briefed him at length on the NCHD’s achievements and its network throughout the district.

The DGM informed that with the efforts of district government Shikarpur and notables of the district NCHD succeeded in reopening 70 closed Government Primary schools and adopted two feeder schools in the district.

However, 58,000 children were enrolled during the NCHD admission campaign throughout the district during the year 2007-2008. While 21,000 uneducated women were educated through NCHD ’s adult literacy centres in the 50 union councils of the district.
