LG Minister (Agha Siraj Durrani) is our boss: Kamal
May 21st, 2008 | By Sindh Today | Category: Focused, SindhCity Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal conceded that Sindh Local Government (LG) Minister Agha Siraj Durrani “is our boss and his orders will be obeyed and we would work collectively for the development of Karachi”.
This was stated by him just after his whirl wind tour of the city for the first time with Agha Siraj Durrani and Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Wednesday. Addressing a press briefing at Civic Center, Mustafa said: “We would resolve all the issues through a close coordination in order to develop Sindh, including Karachi.
It is worth mentioning that since last fortnight Mustafa Kamal and Agha Durrani had been issuing statements against each other over power sharing and this had created a great confusion at administrative level. Governor Sindh played the role of mediator and both Mustafa and Durrani were brought close at the Governor House.
Sindh Minister Agha Siraj Durrani undertook over three-hour tour of Karachi to personally see all the development works done so far as well as the ongoing development projects. It was for the first time that Mustafa Kamal gave a detailed presentation to Sindh minister.
When Durrani was asked to give his observation about the visit, he said: “City Nazim†Syed Mustafa Kamal has done a fantastic work and his untiring efforts for the development of Karachi need a lot of appreciation”.
Durrani stressed that a lot of development has been done by Syed Mustafa Kamal.
Answering a query, he said: “It is correct that the federal government has made deductions from all the districts and we would pursue the matter with federal government”. He pointed out to Sindh Governor that he would also help in this regard. He said there existed various issues which have been resolved and if other problems arise the same would be resolved amicably. “MQM is our coalition partner and we will work collectively for the development of Karachi,” he added.
Replying to another question that after seeing the development works did he estimate how much funds would be required for building more bridges and flyovers in Karachi, the minister said: “Yes Karachi needs flyovers and bridges to remove traffic congestion and blockade of roads”. On a query that who heads the KWSB and KBCA now, Durrani replied that as per notification he was still the chairman. On the occasion Nazim remained silent. Durrani, however, did not agree with a questioner that despite MQM being a coalition partner of PPP, Urdu speaking officials were being transferred and Sindhi speaking people were being deputed.
On a question that KWSB has two MDs now, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad intervened and said the order was held in abeyance and this issue would also be decided through close coordination of City Nazim and Sindh Minister for Local Bodies.
The Sindh minister said that there were some differences and misunderstandings which would be resolved through close coordination.
It may be noted that the minister had time and again reminded the City Nazim that he should not intervene in the matters of Sindh government.
Addressing the media persons,†Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad said their tour of the city was meant to see the development works being carried out in Karachi and also to expedite the ongoing development process.
He said both the federal and provincial governments would work for the development of the city which happens to be an industrial hub and whose development was linked with the prosperity of the country.
The governor said that the basic idea behind this whirlwind tour of Karachi was to evolve a close coordination between the minister and the nazim and so far they have succeeded and now they would be working with close coordination.
The governor, the minister and the nazim also went to the house of artist Iqbal Mehdi and offered condolence to his wife.
