Power crisis in Karachi increased, Another power plant tripped

KARACHI : The power crisis in the metropolis further deepened when another unit of the Bin Qasim power plant was tripped increasing power shortfall in Karachi to 800 megawatt on Monday.

Bin Qasim power plants unit four was closed late night after leakage developed in its boiler, KESC sources said. The closure caused suspension of 120-megawatt power supply to the city. The power plants unit-1, 3 and six were already closed due to technical faults. Moreover Wapda is supplying 300-megawatt power to Karachi instead of 500 megawatts.

The difference between demand and supply of power in Karachi has reached to 800 megawatts due to which all residential areas undergoing two-hour load shedding after every hour, KESC authorities said. Aaj TV, 2008
