Sindh Govt coalition partners share their performance with Asif Zardari
Jun 12th, 2008 | By Sindh Today | Category: SindhKARACHI: The assessment of various departments was made and working of Sindh government reviewed at a high level meeting held at Chief Minister House here Thursday. Besides PPP’s Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, the meeting was attended by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and all the Ministers belonging to coalition parties in the Sindh Government.
Later Sindh Information Minister, Shazia Marri, told a press briefing that mainly the meeting assessed and reviewed the performance of Sindh Government and as to what further improvement can be brought about.
In the meeting, she said, a number of suggestions were also put forth and many ideas floated for better working of Sindh Government.
The Minister said that Asif Zardari expressed the desire that the way the coalition partners are working in the Sindh Government, the performance of each one of them should be further improved.
Shazia Marri said the present government is faced with many challenges and problems which were highlighted in the meeting and all the participants shared their performance with Asif Ali Zardari.
She pointed out that it had been due to reconciliatory approach of the PPP’s Co-Chairperson that today almost all the parties are sitting together in the government with the commitment that they all will work with hand in hand and live like a family.
She pointed out that differences does occur everywhere and even in families but Asif Ali Zardari was of the view that without involving in differences every one should work with the spirit of brotherhood and for the progress of the Province.
Replying a question about views of Asif Ali Zardadri about performance of Sindh Government, Shazia Marri said it would be pre-mature to give any verdict or give report on the question of performance.
But, she said, with the reconciliatory approach, the PPP Co-Chairperson is pursuing , the coalition government will go quite far off and every effort would be made to make it stronger enough to complete its 5 year term.
She told a questioner that budget proposals or recommendations did not figure in the meeting. She said that Sindh’s would be a people-friendly budget.
Replying a question, she reiterated that today’s session was quite smooth and everyone attending the meeting did not highlight any differences but, on the contrary, expressed the desire to work together for greater good of the Province.
She said that today’s meeting did discuss development plans and strategy.
She clarified that it was a meeting held to assess the performance of Sindh government departments in the very presence of Asif Ali Zardari and no differences were highlighted.
She told a questioner that in the meeting, issues of water, power and unemployment were also discussed and an assessment of situation in respect of each issue was made besides discussing what further improvement could be brought.
Shazia Marri told a questioner that no one is happy with the working of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation.
“We have to implement the government’s announcement made in this regard”, she said and added that after July 2008, present conditions would show improvement.
She said although KESC is a private entity now, we cannot keep ourselves aloof from its working when people are faced with grave problems.
She said the government is set to implement short term plans while long term plans also exist. (APP)
