Police withdraw security guards from MQM headquarters
Apr 15th, 2008 | By Sindh Today | Category: SindhKARACHI: The Karachi Police withdrew its security guards posted at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) headquarters, Nine-Zero, in Azizabad in the wee hours of Monday, sources in the MQM leadership said.
The sources in the MQM said that the security guards deployed at Nine-Zero had not been restored till Monday evening. However, aspokesman for the Sindh Police said that, despite a change in deployment position, some 20 police guards were still performing their security duties at the MQM headquarters.
The spokesman said that, owing to a serious shortage of manpower faced by the Sindh police, it regularly reviews the position of the deployment of the police guards at various places in the province.
In this regard, the spokesman said, the deployment of police guards at various sensitive spots is increased or reduced as part of the ongoing process of regular reviewing. Sources in the MQM leadership said that the party would not contact any authority among the Sindh government or police high-ups to have the deployment of police guards at the party’s headquarters restored.
Some channels of the electronic media reported late Monday evening that police had restored its security guards at the MQM’s headquarters, but the leadership of the party had denied any such development. the news
