“Rajasthan Royals” beat “Chennai Super Kings” by 10 runs

CHENNAI : Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings by 10 runs in an exciting finish here on Saturday in the 49th Twenty20 match of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The high-scoring match saw each of the two teams making over 200 runs an IPL record aggregate of 412 runs for the loss of 12 wickets from 40 overs.

Accepting a difficult challenge of 212 runs, Chennai batsmen never gave up the chase and finished at 201 for seven.

Suresh Raina and Parthiv Patel set the things rolling at the start and Albie Morkel turned it around after Rainas dismissal. Dhonis dismissal was a crucial one as Albie was tied down by fuller deliveries in the end.

Morkel remained unbeaten on 71, which he scored off 40 balls with six fours and four sixes while Patel made 54 off 40 balls with five fours and two sixes and Raina smashed 45 off just 24 balls with six fours and two sixes.

Sohail Tanvir claimed three wickets for 33, two of them from the last two balls of the match and his captain Shane Warne got two for 35.

Earlier, an outstanding 51-ball 91 from Graeme Smith, and his frenetic 127-run opening stand with Swapnil Asnodkar, powered Rajasthan Royals to an imposing 211 for five at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Both openers made 127 runs in just 11.1 overs, while Kamran Akmal kept the momentum going with a 28-ball 53.

Smith smashed nine fours and four sixes while Asnodkar hit five fours and two sixes. Aaj TV, 2008
