Shoaib Akhtar challenges Appellate Tribunal verdict in LHC
Jun 30th, 2008 | By Sindh Today | Category: SportsLAHORE: Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has challenged the verdict of the Appellate Tribunal in the Lahore High Court on Monday. In his writ petition filed through renowned lawyer Abid Hasan Minto against the Appellate Tribunal’s verdict, Shoaib Akhtar has adopted the stance that he is an international cricketer and only the game of cricket is his bread and butter.
Thus, there is no legal and constitutional reason to stop him from playing cricket and therefore the ban imposed on him is not fair. The 32-year-old pace-man was banned for five years by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) disciplinary committee in April for several incidents of indiscipline and violating the conditions of a two-year probation.
The ban came followed Shoaib Akhtars public criticism of the PCB after he was dropped from a list of 15 players who were given central contracts in January this year. However, an appellate tribunal reduced the suspension to 18 months and imposed a fine of seven million rupees (115,000 dollars) earlier this month.
Shoaib Akhtar has played 46 Tests and 138 one-day internationals for Pakistan. geo tv
