Google $1b investment impairment in AOL

Google, The leading search engine, has said upon its SEC (Security and Exchange filing) filing that their $1bn investment in AOL, Time Warner’s unit, could be subject to impairment. Google has five percent stake in the company.“Based on our review, we believe our investment in AOL may be impaired… We will continue to review this investment for impairment in the future. There can be no assurance that impairment charges will not be required in the future, and any such amounts may be material to our consolidated statements of income,” provided in SEC filing.
Google invested in AOL in order to prevent the search advertising deal between AOL and Microsoft in 2005. According to Valuation figures, AOL was worth about $20bn at that time.
Though Google did not mention in its SEC filing how much AOL is worth now but According to some financial analyst, It could worth around $10bn now.
