Apple confirms iPhone 3G blacklist function
Aug 10th, 2008 | By Sindh Today | Category: TechnologyIt is now clear that iPhone 3G has application called “Blacklist” or “Kill Switch” which allows Apple to eliminate any unauthorized application remotely on the iPhone. At last, Apple chief executive confirmed the existence of application built into the iPhone software.
He further added that blacklist was added for security reasons. According to Wall street Journal report, “Mr. Jobs confirmed such a capability exists, but argued that Apple needs it in case it inadvertently allows a malicious program one that stole users’ personal data, for example to be distributed to iPhones through the App Store. Jobs also said “‘hopefully we never have to pull that lever, but we would be irresponsible not to have a lever like that to pull”.

The admission confirms the existence of iPhone 3G and it was earlier reported two weeks ago by researcher Johnthan Zdziarski. He found the mysterious file in the iPhone’s filmware which can link Apple to its server to kill any application.
