Motorola tops in US Market and BlackBerry strong

Despite slowing economy, Motorola is still dominating the U.S. handset market and BlackBerry is also coming on strong. According to Strategy Analytics report that U.S. mobile phone shipments increase by 5.3 percent during the second quarter of 2008.

Motorola took top position by getting 26 percent of market share in the U.S and followed by South Korean’s LG with 22 percent and while Nokia, captured 9 percent in the U.S market.

Motorola launched 16 handsets in the first half of the years and among them 10 were introduced in the 2nd quarter. Sales of RIM’s BlackBerry, Smartphone also jumped to capture 11 percent of U.S market. They recently launched its latest Smartphone the “Bold” with focus on the consumer market and also to compete Apple’s iPhone 3G.

There were 41.9 million handsets sold in U.S during the 2nd quarter of 2008 which was up 39.8 million from same period last year.
