A class-action lawsuit was filed against Facebook in California court for violating users privacy for its Becon Program.

Facebook designed the program Beacon which shares information Facebook userr’s information with other friends.

The suit was filed by Privacy advocates in California court against Facebook for not asking for approval to publicly showing information to other members on the Facebook. “By the time any user was notified that Facebook was (at a minimum), an observing party to the transaction, and that Facebook was asking for an approval to publicly broadcast identifying information regarding the event, personally identifying information had already been communicated to Facebook,” the lawsuit said.

Beacon, Face book’s program, was under fire from privacy advocates since its launch. It was not only collecting information from Facebook users but also third party sites who are part of the program, According to suit. For example if you keep a game in the queue and the notification of arrival of the game is sent on your facebook account for other members to see it if your beacon program is on.

The suit also require Facebook and its affiliates sites to delete users data which was collected without users awareness or their approval. The lawsuits also included Blockbuster, Fandango, Overstock, Hotwire, STA Travel, Zappos.com and other undisclosed companies.
