Kendrapada (Orissa), Aug 11 (IANS) A 26-year-old woman and her nine-month old son died after being bitten by a snake in Orissa, police said Monday.

The poisonous reptile bit Kalpana Mandal and her son Kartik at Petachela village in Kendrapada district, some 150 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, Sunday night.

On Monday morning when Kalpana’s husband Siba Mandal, a fisherman by profession, returned from sea, he found them in a serious condition and moved them to the district government hospital, where the woman and her son died, the police said.

Petachela is surrounded by dense mangrove forests where many poisonous snakes live. The reptiles are known to enter the village in search of food.
