China unhappy over Belgium PM’s meeting with Dalai Lama: Report

Dec 3rd, 2008 - 1:19 pm EST By Sindh Today | Category: World

Brussels, Dec 4 (IANS) Chinese authorities Wednesday summoned the Belgian ambassador to Beijing to express their displeasure over a meeting here between Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama and Belgium’s Prime Minister Yves Leterme, EuAsiaNews reported.

Leterme said his meeting with the spiritual leader was a private one.

The Dalai Lama is to address the European Parliament Thursday. He will also meet French President Nicolas Sarkozy during his European tour.

In protest against the meeting China has cancelled the European Union-China summit that was supposed to take place in France this week.

France currently holds the Presidency of the 27-member European block.
